H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi
and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces met with US
President George W. Bush at Camp David resort Sunday evening.
The meeting dealt with the strong bilateral relations between the UAE and
the United States as well as the growing bilateral cooperation in all
areas. It also dealt with the latest regional and international
developments.
The meeting underscored continuous efforts for
progress on the peace process in the Middle East as well as for
establishing regional security and stability. The two sides also
exchanged views on issues of mutual concern.
Present at the meeting were H.H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister
and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Khaldoon Khalifa Al
Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs and Yousef Mana' Al Otaiba,
UAE Ambassador to the US. President Bush briefed Sheikh Mohammed
on the G20 Summit meetings which aim to discuss the best ways to face
the consequences of the global financial crisis, rebuild trust in the
commercial finance system as well as restore vitality and growth to
global economy. Sheikh Mohammed underscored the G20 meetings at
this critical time amid growing belief in a necessary joint international action to face the current and future economic
challenges. Sheikh Mohammed noted that despite its sound financial
position and economic stability, the UAE is busily engaged in efforts
with other countries to minimize the impacts of the current global
financial crisis. 'The UAE supports all efforts and steps made to restore efficiency to the exhausted global economy", Sheikh Mohammed

BusinessWeek Assistant Managing Editor Bruce Nussbaum Joins BIF Research Advisory Council

I have exciting news for the BIF community: Bruce Nussbaum has been appointed to our Research Advisory Council[/size]. Bruce is an assistant managing editor for BusinessWeek, responsible for coverage of design and innovation.For
years, Bruce has been at the center of a global conversation on the
discipline of innovation and is a fierce advocate of the field of
design thinking. He has written extensively about how organizations,
both inside and outside the corporate sphere, should apply design
thinking concepts to their innovation strategy. His blog, NussbaumOnDesign
reflects his personal and provocative take on what smart companies are
doing (or should be doing) in the U.S., Asia and Europe. Bruce
truly understands the complexities associated with managing a networked

Further Background on Bruce Nussbaum
Bruce Nussbaum joined BusinessWeek in
1977 and started the international finance section. In 1980, he became
head of the foreign news section. In 1985, he left the publication to
become executive editor of Manhattan, Inc., and returned to BusinessWeek in
1986 as a senior writer. He is the author of The World After Oil: The
Shifting Axis of Power and Wealth, and Good Intentions, an inside look
at medical research on AIDS. He has received awards from the Sigma
Delta Chi Journalism Society, the Overseas Press Club, and the
Industrial Designers Society of America. His essays have appeared in
The Best Business Stories of the Year-2002 and The Best American
Political Writing-2004. Nussbaum served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in
the Philippines and he is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Changing Images of Man is the stuff of legend -- but the actual document is way

When I first got ahold of this document, I thought it was
the blueprint for world government and Willis Harman's beloved "Global
Mind Change." There's no secret formulas here, and no admissions from the secret
society. There is a robust and still-valuable body of work about how to change
human culture for the better -- I'd like to think that's more useful. Let me

วันนี้เวลา 08.30 น. ณ ห้องสีม่วง ตึกไทยคู่ฟ้า ทำเนียบรัฐบาล นายเดวิด ร็อกกี้เฟลเลอร์ (David Rockefeller) อดีตประธาน
ธนาคารเชส แมนฮัตตัน (Chase Manhattan) แห่งสหรัฐอเมริกา ได้เข้าเยี่ยมคารวะนายชวน หลีกภัย นายกรัฐมนตรีในโอกาส
ที่เดินทางมาเยือนประเทศไทยระหว่างวันที่ 10-12 เมษายน 2543 ภายหลังกล่าวต้อนรับได้มีการสนทนา สรุปสาระสำคัญได้ดังนี้

นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้กล่าวแสดงความยินดีที่ได้มีโอกาสต้อนรับอดีตประธานธนาคาร เชส แมนฮัตตัน / ผู้สืบตระกูลร็อกกี้ เฟลเลอร์
ซึ่งเป็นตระกูลที่มีความสัมพันธ์ใกล้ชิดกับพระราชวงศ์ไทย และกับประเทศไทย โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งความร่วมมือของมูลนิธิร็อกกี้
เฟลเลอร์ ทั้งในด้านการศึกษา การแพทย์ และปัจจุบันยังได้ให้ความร่วมมือทางด้านการวิจัยทางการเกษตรอีกด้วย ในการนี้

ในช่วงที่ประเทศไทยประสบวิกฤตการณ์ทางเศรษฐกิจ

ในการนี้ นายเดวิด ร็อกกี้เฟลเลอร์ ได้สอบถามความคืบหน้าเกี่ยวกับภาวะเศรษฐกิจของไทย ภายหลังจากเผชิญกับวิกฤตการณ์
ทางเศรษฐกิจ ซึ่งนายกรัฐมนตรีได้กล่าวว่า สถานการณ์ทางเศรษฐกิจของไทยดีขึ้นเป็นลำดับ ทั้งในส่วนของเงินทุนสำรอง ค่า
เงินบาท อัตราดอกเบี้ย และภาวะเงินเฟ้อ อย่างไรก็ดี ยังมีปัญหาในเรื่องหนี้เสียและสถานการณ์ทางการเงินที่ยังมีความอ่อนแอ
ส่วนภาวะการส่งออกของประเทศไทยก็เริ่มปรับตัวดีขึ้นในปีนี้ อย่างไรก็ตาม มูลค่าการส่งออกของสินค้าเกษตรกรรมไม่สามารถ
เทียบได้กับมูลค่าการส่งออกของสินค้าอุตสาหกรรม ซึ่งราคาสินค้าเกษตรที่ตกต่ำก็ได้ส่งผลกระทบอย่างมากต่อประชาชนส่วนใหญ่
ของประเทศที่อยู่ในภาคการเกษตร

นอกจากนี้ นายเดวิด ร็อกกี้เฟลเลอร์ยังได้สนทนาถึงความสัมพันธ์กับประเทศเพื่อนบ้านของไทย และปัญหายาเสพติด ทั้งนี้
นายกรัฐมนตรีได้กล่าวว่า ความสัมพันธ์โดยทั่วไปกับประเทศเพื่อนบ้านมีความสัมพันธ์ที่ดีและมีความร่วมมือกันมาโดยตลอด
อาทิ ความร่วมมือกับมาเลเซีย ลาว อย่างไรก็ตาม ยังมีปัญหาผู้อพยพจากพม่า เวียดนาม และกัมพูชาอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก และ
สำหรับปัญหายาเสพติดนั้น ประเทศไทยก็ได้พยายามแก้ไขปัญหายาเสพติดมาโดยตลอด และได้อาศัยการดำเนินการตามโครงการ
พระดำริ ที่ให้ประชาชนที่เคยใช้พื้นที่ปลูกฝิ่นหันมาปลูกพืชชนิดอื่นทดแทน ซึ่งประเทศพม่าก็ได้เข้ามาศึกษาโครงการดังกล่าว
ไทยเพื่อเป็นตัวอย่างในการปรับปรุงแก้ไขปัญหายาเสพติดเช่นกัน

ในตอนท้าย คณะของนายเดวิด ร็อกกี้เฟลเลอร์ ได้กล่าวแสดงความชื่นชมการดำเนินงานของรัฐบาลและนายกรัฐมนตรีในการ
พยายามฟื้นฟูเศรษฐกิจของประเทศ และการแสดงบทบาทอย่างสำคัญในเวทีระหว่างประเทศด้วย และกล่าวด้วยว่าทางธนาคาร
เชส แมนฮัตตันมีความยินดีที่ได้เข้ามาดำเนินกิจการทางการเงินในประเทศไทย ซึ่งนอกจากการมีส่วนร่วมในการระดมทุนใน
ประเทศไทยแล้ว ยังได้มีส่วนช่วยในการปรับปรุงโครงสร้างของบริษัทในประเทศไทยด้วย

โดยในการให้สัมภาษณ์ที่ทำเนียบรัฐบาล นายกฯอภิสิทธิ์ กล่าวว่า
ในช่วงหนึ่งเดือนที่ผ่านมา
รัฐบาลพรรคประชาธิปัตย์ได้สร้างความก้าวหน้าเรื่องการระงับสถานการณ์ขัดแย้ง
ภายในบ้านเมือง และกำลังทำให้รัฐบาลสามารถกลับมาทำงานได้อย่างเป็นปกติ

เขาไม่ได้คาดหวังว่าความขัดแย้งทางสังคมไทยจะหายไปได้ในภายใน 1 เดือน หรือ
6 เดือน แต่เขาคิดว่าคนไทยสามารถรู้สึกได้ถึงความแตกต่าง
เพราะตอนนี้เมืองไทยมีรัฐบาลใหม่มาทำงานแล้ว
โดยแม้ว่าการประท้วงจะยังมีอยู่ แต่ก็มีเพียงจำนวนน้อย
และรัฐบาลของเขาไม่ได้ขยายความขัดแย้งหรือความแตกแยกใด ๆ
สิ่งเหล่านี้คือการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่ประชาชนสามารถรู้สึกได้
